Donald Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway’s attempt to defend the Republican presidential nominee’s habit of attacking women failed spectacularly during an interview with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Wednesday.
Conway criticized Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for “roughing Trump up,” during the debate over “a couple of comments he’s made over 25 years or so with respect to women”, and complained that she didn’t understand why Clinton keeps hitting him with negative ads.
Kelly shot back: “Kellyanne, come on,” she responded. “The ads that she’s running about him when it comes to his comments on women use his words.”
Conway then tried to play down the extent of Trump’s misogynistic statements, only to be silenced by Kelly’s response:
“You know he has repeatedly made comments about women ― about their looks, their size, their weight, even in this campaign,” Kelly said.
Clinton decisively emerged victorious over Trump in the first debate, coming off as more presidential and better prepared than the GOP nominee.
