Former first lady Michelle Obama spoke for the first time since leaving the White House on Thursday at the American Institute of Architects’ convention in Orlando. She answered the question that’s on everyone’s mind; will she be running for office?
According to CNN, Michelle said she doesn’t plan on running for office. She stated that she “wouldn’t ask [her] children to do this again.”
Michelle said she would much rather help out the country as a private citizen, focusing on issues like, young girls and women facing challenges with education, healthcare, violence and income inequality.
“It’s good to get out of the house,” she said about being at the event. “So far so good –– it hasn’t been that long since we left … it’s good to not have the weight of the world upon your shoulders.”
Michelle also expressed how her and her family felt after leaving the White House, stating that her daughters, Malia and Sasha, had tears in their eyes as they left.
“I didn’t want to have tears in my eyes for the new president,” she said.
