Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday tried to make light of the outpouring of support for his Democratic competitor Stacey Abrams, who has had the help of many celebrities, by comparing himself to both Oprah Winfrey and Will Ferrell.
“Stacey Abrams is being bankrolled by Hollywood liberals, sending their support into the state,” said Pence, who is from Indiana. “Like I heard Oprah’s in town today.”
As the crowd booed the beloved African American entrepreneur and television star Pence added, “I heard Will Ferrell was going door to door the other day. Well, I’d like to remind Stacey and Oprah and Will Ferrell, I’m kind of a big deal too.”
MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle had the perfect response.
“Except he’s not that funny,” Ruhle cracked drily.
