Special counsel Robert Mueller wants to get to the bottom of things when it comes to the Russia investigation. He has now impaneled a grand jury to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections, as report reveals.
According to the Wall Street Journal, two close sources familiar with the investigation said the grand jury will continue on for several months.
“This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas, explained to the Wall Street Journal. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”
Mueller is overseeing the investigation that was supposed to be done by Attorney General Jeff Sessions before he recused himself.
Donald Trump has been constantly attacking Sessions, saying that had he known he would recuse himself he would have never appointed him to the position.
Trump also publicly attacked Mueller, calling the probe “the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!”
This is just more bad news for Trump, who has been hinting at firing Mueller, but that would cause a whole set of other problems for Trump.
