Mueller Latest Move Signals He’s Flipped Michael Flynn
Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team has postponed a previously planned grand jury testimony involving Michael Flynn, signaling that the former national security adviser to President Donald Trump has agreed to a plea deal with Robert Mueller, CNN reports.
Flynn’s testimony was abruptly postponed “with no reason given,” according to CNN. The delay comes after attorneys for Flynn told Trump’s lawyers they could no longer discuss Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and collusion with the Trump campaign. That moved sent shockwaves of speculation across Capitol Hill that Flynn has entered a plea deal with Mueller.
The report also noted that Flynn met with Mueller’s team on Monday. Mueller is reportedly looking into Flynn’s work on behalf of the Turkish government, which he failed to disclose until after he was removed as Trump’s national security adviser.
Mueller is also probing allegations Flynn was offered millions of dollars to aide in the extradition of a Muslim cleric sought after by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Flynn has denied any wrongdoing.
White House aides have sought to distance Trump from Flynn’s actions, but Trump himself once asked former FBI director James Comey to make the department’s investigation into Flynn go away. Mueller is reportedly looking at whether that request from Trump was an attempt to obstruct justice.
These latest developments may explain President Donald Trump’s bizarre behavior this week.
