Pelosi Makes Power Move After Trump Vetoes Rejection Of His National Emergency
Calling the congressional rejection of his border national emergency “reckless” and “dangerous”, President Donald Trump on Friday vetoed a Senate bill overruling his national emergency. In response, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that Congress will vote to override the veto on March 26.
“The House and the Senate resoundingly rejected the President’s lawless power grab, yet the President has chosen to continue to defy the Constitution, the Congress and the will of the American people,” Pelosi said in a statement announcing the override.
“House Republicans will have to choose between their partisan hypocrisy and their sacred oath to support and defend the Constitution,” she added.
Trump insisted the situation on the southern border amounts to a threat to Americans’ safety, despite a drop in crime and crossings at the border.
