Officials: Obama Personally Warned Trump Against Hiring Flynn As National Security Adviser
Every day, more and more information confirms what we all have suspected: Donald Trump knew about Michael Flynn’s ties to the Russian government before he hired him as a National Security Adviser.
As former acting Attorney General Sally Yates prepares to testify before Congress that she warned the Trump team about Flynn being potentially compromised by a foreign government, NBC News has revealed that former President Barack Obama warned Trump against hiring Flynn before he left office.
Citing three former Obama administration officials, NBC reports that Obama’s warning came “less than 48 hours after the November election when the two sat down for a 90-minute conversation in the Oval Office.”
In an interview with Fox News last month, Trump said it was Obama’s responsibility to vet former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn — despite the fact that Flynn was pushed out of his job at the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014.
But despite the warnings, Trump decided to make Flynn his national security adviser. Flynn was forced to resign in February after reports surfaced that the Justice Department warned the Trump administration that the disgraced general misled administration officials regarding his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States and was potentially vulnerable to blackmail by the Russians.
