‘It’s Not Fair’: Dismayed Trump Supporters Are Feeling ‘Betrayed’ By Tax Plan For The Rich

Supporters of Donald Trump say they are feeling “betrayed” by the president and his Republican allies after they passed a tax plan that includes massive tax cuts for the rich and nothing for them.

Speaking with voters in the Midwest who played a major hand in electing President Donald Trump, the Washington Post found supporters who are having deep regret in their choice for president.

One Trump voter, Patrick Colley, said he thought he had a president who understood the average worker. He was wrong. Colley admitted that he still hopes to see some benefit from the tax package that still needs to be hammered into its final form by the Republican-controlled Congress. But he said reporting on the plan shows “too much gray about the wealthy” and how they will ultimately benefit.

Colley doubted corporations would invest their tax savings from the GOP Congressional windfall in their businesses by hiring more workers, saying they “are not in a caring mode.”

As for the rich who will see their tax burden go down and don’t have to worry about health care bills, Colley expressed frustration with the bill that will likely be signed by Trump.

“It’s depressing, you know? It’s depressing. I pay like 30 percent [in taxes], and I’m a regular guy. It’s not fair. And a millionaire pays like 12 percent,” he said. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair at all.

Another Republican voter, Ron Stephens, sees the rich profiting while any gains he may receive “will be wiped out by deductions that Republicans are stripping out of the tax code.”

“Why are you going to lower their taxes?” the 49-year-old auto industry employee told the Post. “The level of lifestyle that they have versus everyone else — why do they need that? It’s not that big of an impact for them, but for someone making $30,000 a year? That would have a huge impact on them.”
