Obama Calls For Action To Help Puerto Rico

Former President Barack Obama is using his social media to encourage people to donate to help out Puerto Rico, urging people to “answer the call.”

The former president took to Twitter on Tuesday and encouraged people to help out the island.

Puerto Rico fell victim to Hurrican Maria, which left residents without power or running water. As residents of the American territory begged for help, Donald Trump took to Twitter to attack the island, blaming them as for the power outages,

Trump said on Tuesday:

“Texas & Florida are doing great but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure & massive debt, is in deep trouble. It’s old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with.”

On the other hand, Obama urged people to help.

“We’re expanding our efforts to help Puerto Rico & the USVI, where our fellow Americans need us right now. Join us at ‪oneamericaappeal.org ,” the former president wrote, sharing a video he made with former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton for One America Appeal.

“As former presidents we want to help our fellow Americans begin to recover,” Obama says in the short video, while Bush says of the damage caused to Texas: “People are hurting down here, but as one Texan put it, ‘We got more love in Texas than water.‘”
