Former President Barack Obama is expected to speak out against Donald Trump’s decision to do away with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), which allowed 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children to stay in the country legally.
The program was started back in 2012 by Obama. Trump fiddled around the idea that he will do away with DACA during his campaign, but his decision has changed on multiple occasions.
According to Politico, Trump will be ending the Obama-era DACA program. This has caused a lot of backlash from members of both political parties.
Politico also reports that Obama plans to speak out against Trump’s decision. The former president will be posting a message of opposing Trump’s decision on Facebook and then sharing the message on Twitter to his 94 million followers.
According to the report, Obama said that he would not remain silent if Trump engaged in “efforts to round up kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids, and send them someplace else, when they love this country.”
