Obama Brilliantly Drops The Hammer On ‘Shameless’ Darrell Issa

On Sunday, President Barack Obama stopped by a fundraising event for Doug Applegate in Dan Diego, CA, and launched a scathing attack on Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) calling his recent move to portray himself as an administration ally “shameless” and “the definition of chutzpah.”

During the event, the president lashed out at Issa, who after years of challenging the President, is now touting his cooperation with the White House in a campaign mailer featuring an Obama photo.

“His primary contribution to the US Congress has been to obstruct and to waste taxpayer dollars on trumped up investigations that have led nowhere,” Obama said of Issa, who is now in a close race against former Marine Doug Applegate.

During his tenure as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Issa launched investigations into issues ranging from the Internal Revenue Service to the attack on the U.S. embassy compound in Benghazi, he recently sent a mailer with a photo of Obama signing legislation into law providing victims of sexual assault new federal legal protections. The brochure says Issa was “pleased” the president signed the law, which he co-sponsored.

The president told the audience: “This is now a guy who, because poll numbers are bad, has sent out brochures with my picture on them touting his cooperation on issues with me.”

“Now, that is the definition of chutzpah,” he said, as the crowd at artist Christine Forester’s laughed. “Here’s a guy who called my administration perhaps the most corrupt in history — despite the fact that actually we have not had a major scandal in my administration — that, when Trump was suggesting that I wasn’t even born here, said, well, I don’t know, was not sure. We can pull up the quotes.”

“Beyond these interpersonal conversations, this is not somebody who is serious about working on problems,” Obama added.

The president framed the Republican Party as being in lock step with the GOP nominee, saying, “It is absolutely vital we do everything we can to maximize turnout, maximize enthusiasm, reject Trump but also reject the climate that results in Donald Trump getting the nomination.”

“That starts in House of Representatives. The things you’re hearing Trump say, they’re said on floor of the House all the time. The Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives are repeatedly promoting crazy conspiracy theories and demonizing opponents,” Obama said.
