With his presidency drawing to a close, Barack Obama’s farewell address on Tuesday struck a note of hope, just as he did back in 2008 when he was elected.
Speaking in Chicago, Obama covered a range of topics from what he’d done during his presidency, to highlighting threats against democracy such as inequality and race divisions.
With the inauguration ceremony for Donald Trump due in 24 hours, questions are now starting to emerge over what the future holds for the country when a calmed, collected and smart leader is no longer in the White House.
As he leaves, President Barack Obama will take with him a legacy of decency, anchored on respect, good judgment, and dignity.
Those are qualities that Donald Trump, a fraudulent misogynist, self-described “pu*sy grabber”, and Russian puppet can’t replace.
Unlike his predecessors, Obama, 55, is still young, with an entire life before him. And he wants to use his time doing what he does best: helping others.
“I’ll go back to doing the kinds of work that I was doing before, just trying to find ways to help people – help young people get educations, and help people get jobs, and try to bring businesses into neighborhoods that don’t have enough businesses,” Obama said during a recent interview.
“That’s the kind of work that I really love to do.”
Thank you for a job well done, Mr. President. You will be missed in the White House.
Be careful out there! God Bless 🙂
