Ocasio-Cortez Slam Dunks Mitch McConnell Over Photo Of Campaign Staffers Groping a Cutout Of Her
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Tuesday called out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after a photo emerged of a group of McConnell’s campaign staffers groping a cutout of the freshman lawmaker.
The photo shows seven young men, all of whom are wearing “Team Mitch” T-shirts, surrounding the cutout of Ocasio-Cortez. One is kissing the cutout, while another has his hand near the neck of the cutout.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez asked McConnell if he was “paying for young men to practice groping & choking members of Congress” or if it was “standard culture of #TeamMitch.”
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted the image the same day the McConnell campaign had been criticized for tweeting a display depicting a tombstone bearing the name of Amy McGrath, one of several Democrats vying to face him in the 2020 election.
McConnell’s campaign told The Washington Post that the young men were not affiliated with it.
“These young men are not campaign staff, they’re high schoolers and it’s incredible that the national media has sought to once again paint a target on their backs rather than report real, and significant news in our country,” McConnell’s campaign manager Kevin Golden told the Post.
Hey @senatemajldr – these young men look like they work for you.
Just wanted to clarify: are you paying for young men to practice groping & choking members of Congress w/ your payroll, or is this just the standard culture of #TeamMitch?
