It seems the Never Trump movement has moved to the Electoral College and it’s gaining momentum. According to media reports, several electors are now mounting one last ditch effort to prevent Donald Trump from officially winning the election.
The electors cast their ballots on December 19 and the 2016 results are officially certified. But as news of widespread vote discrepancies in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, that some experts allege might have been at play in tilting the results to Trump, a group of electors filed their 527 papers in an effort to convince enough GOP electors to support another candidate.
The group, which has dubbed itself Hamilton Electors, registered a 527 political committee with Colorado’s secretary of state on Tuesday; 527 is a reference to the section of the federal tax code that provides for tax-exempt political organizations.
The Trump campaign has declined repeated requests for comment on the Electoral College effort.
