GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC) got rightfully humiliated during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday after he brought up his efforts to get President Donald Trump to sign off on a deal for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.
Asked if Trump was a racist — and Graham replied that he wasn’t. Rather, insisted Graham, Trump simply lashes out at whoever says mean things about him, while at the same time reacts warmly to people who say nice things about him.
“What you say about him matters more than anything else,” Graham said.
Bash then pivoted to ask Graham whether it has really been worth it to have spent months buttering up the president when the president seems to have been the one who blew up a bipartisan immigration deal last week.
“You have spent the better part of this year doing what you’re talking about — killing him with kindness,” Bash said. “And it seems to have blown up in your face.”
“No, I don’t feel that way at all!” he insisted.
“How come?” Bash asked.
“Because, uhm… I think we’re going to get a deal,” he replied.
“But doesn’t it bother you that the President of the United States has a different outlook between Tuesday and Thursday?” she asked him.
“If you don’t understand that there’s more than one politician in all of us, that’s pretty naive,” he replied.

This is painful. Graham has spent the last months aggressively wraithing himself for Trump. And it's all blown up in his face. pic.twitter.com/M2vg5wz9id
