Donald Trump addressed the nation last night to talk about his border wall. Following his speech, Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer got their own airtime to rebuttal Trump’s remarks. And it appears that the American audience were more interested in hearing what the Democrats had to say rather than Trump.
According to Nielsen ratings from last night’s addresses, the quarter hour from 9 to 9:15 p.m. ET that included the Trump’s address attracted a combined 28.1 rating in metered markets on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC.
The next quarter, which included the response from Pelosi and Schumer beat Trump’s rating with a registered 29.3 across those same networks.
According to reports, CBS led the way with 8 million viewers, NBC was second with 7 million. ABC had 4.43 million viewers and FOX saw 2.56 million tuning in.
While Pelosi and Schumer did beat Trump by double-digit percentages on CNN and MSNBC, it was surprising to see that the two speeches had an equal number of viewers on Fox News – a network that is mostly watched by conservatives.
Trump’s address did not change a thing. The government shutdown has now entered its 19th day and counting.
