After thousands of angry citizens made their voices heard at town halls, lashing at the Republican party for taking away their healthcare, former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Thursday that a full repeal and replacement of Obamacare is “not going to happen.”
Boehner spoke at a healthcare conference in Florida, where he assured people that the Obamacare repeal will not happen.
“[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare — I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” Boehner said, according to Politico.
Boehner said that the plan is to make small changes to the Affordable Care Act, not repeal it. This comes as a surprise since the man let the Republican opposition to Obamacare for years.
“Most of the framework of the Affordable Care Act … that’s going to be there,” Boehner reportedly said at the conference, adding that “Republicans never ever agree on healthcare.”
Republicans seemed to have finally realized what the people actually want when it comes to healthcare. Thanks to the people who have spoken up Republicans have listened.
