‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli Breaks Down In Tears, Judge Orders Him To 7 Years In Prison: Report

Martin Shkreli, also known as “Pharma Bro,” was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday for defrauding investors.

According to Erik Larson of Bloomberg News, Shkreli was sentenced for “lying to his hedge fund investors & manipulating shares in his biotech firm.”

Shkreli was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto after being found guilty of securities fraud back in 2017.

“I accept the fact that I made serious mistakes, but I still believe that I am a good person with much potential,” Shkreli wrote in a letter to Judge Matsumoto.

Shkreli’s lawyer Benjamin Brafman admitted during the trial that the Pharma Bro made his job more difficult because of the things he would say.

According to Larson, Shkreli broke down in tears in front of the judge as he apologized.

Shkreli will also have to hand over $7.3 million in assets in addition to spending seven years in prison.
