Things got so violent at an alt-right rally in Portland, Oregon on Saturday that it was declared a riot, according to the Oregonian.
Joey Gibson, who is running for U.S. Senate as a Republican in Washington state, constantly holds “free speech rallies” to provoke Antifa and other leftists.
On Saturday, he planned an event in order to interrupt the family-friendly rally opposing Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Police had to get involved when the right-wing group grew violent.
In a video posted by independent journalist Mike Bivins, one of the right-wingers appears to throw a heavy metal trash can lid at a what appears to be a much smaller woman.
Video from earlier during the riot. Left wingers look like they’re throwing a trash can and a sign at a person w a trash can lid. Dude then picks up the metal lid and throws it at a woman nearby. #DefendPDX pic.twitter.com/f5YGlpfWt0

Things got even more hectic when a brawl broke out with at least 100 people from both sides who appeared to be throwing smoke bombs at each other.

Portland Police Bureau cops crossed the street to where the Pepe man is standing and told the crew there that their shields have to be put away. They asked where they can have them and the cop responded “nowhere in the city of Portland.” #DefendPDX pic.twitter.com/mRl4VIXISY

And away they go. Tiny and a proud boy are walked away in handcuffs by DHS police. A huge roar went up from the Antifa side as they pass by. #DefendPDX pic.twitter.com/IfPaceSK3B
