‘Proud To Rep America’s Best Team!’: Obama Shows Off US women’s Soccer Jersey To Celebrate World Cup Win

'Proud To Rep America's Best Team!': Obama Shows Off US women's Soccer Jersey To Celebrate World Cup Win

Former President Barack Obama on Wednesday showed off his custom jersey celebrating the U.S. women’s national soccer team winning the World Cup, saying he was proud to “rep America’s best team.”

“Proud to rep America’s best team! Congrats @USWNT and thanks for being such a strong inspiration for women and girls—and everybody—all across the country,” Obama wrote on Twitter ahead of the ticker tape parade in New York City celebrating the team’s victory.

Obama shared a photo of a jersey with his name on it to honor the team’s victory over the Netherlands 2-0 during Sunday’s game in Lyon, France.

Both the former commander-in-chief and first lady Michelle Obama congratulated the women’s team on their back-to-back World Cup victories.

Obama honored the team in 2015 after their third World Cup win ever, but it is unclear if the reigning champions will head to the White House this year.

U.S. team co-captain Megan Rapinoe said that she would not visit. Teammate Alex Morgan said last week the team will likely decide together whether to accept Trump’s invitation.

Rapinoe, however, has said she has accepted invitations from Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to visit Congress.
