Rachel Maddow Obliterates Trump WH For Calling The Parkland Massacre An ‘Awesome Relief’
On Monday, MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow slammed the Trump administration after White House aides called the shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland a “welcomed reprieve” for the scandal-ridden administration.
“The Washington Post has a stomach-churning story on the front-page of the website right now. This is the actual headline, ‘For the weary White House, Florida shooting offered a ‘reprieve’ from scandals.’” Maddow reported.
Reading from the story, Maddow said:
“The White House was under siege. Domestic abuse allegations against a senior aide were ignored, pointing to a potential high-level coverup. Two Cabinet secretaries were caught charging taxpayers for luxury travel. A Playboy centerfold alleged an extramarital affair with the president. And the special counsel’s Russia investigation was intensifying. The tumult was so intense that there was fervent speculation that President Trump might fire his chief of staff.”
“For everyone, it was a distraction or a reprieve,” said the White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to reflect internal conversations. “A lot of people here felt like it was a reprieve from seven or eight days of just getting pummeled.”
“But as we all know, sadly, when the coverage dies down a little bit, we’ll be back through the chaos,” the official said.
She added: “Eventually the coverage will die down and the White House will be sad about that, because for them, it’s been an awesome relief to have this massacre in the news.”
“Look at that headline there again,” a visibly enraged Maddow said, putting an image of the quote back on screen, before adding, “Outside the White House, people see that massacre differently.”
