Realizing The GOP Created a Monster, Paul Ryan Issues Stunning Rebuke Of Trump’s Surrender To Russia
House Speaker Paul Ryan stunned his fellow House Republicans with a sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump’s submissive handling of his summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
In a strongly worded statement, Ryan Slammed the president’s surrendering and acceptance of Putin’s denial that Russia had interfered in the 2016 presidential election.
“There is no question that Russia interfered in our election and continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world,” Ryan said, USA Today reports. “The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally,” he added.
Ryan’s statement comes as U.S. lawmakers are criticizing Trump over his unwillingness to hold Russia accountable for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
During a joint news conference with Putin, Trump appeared submissive as he accepted Putin’s denials of meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and talked of his hopes for warmer relations with Moscow.
US intel agencies have unanimously concluded that Moscow conducted a coordinated effort to interfere in that contest to boost Trump and hurt Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
But Trump dismissed their assessment, saying on Monday that Putin was “very powerful” in his denials that Russia was not involved in the elections. In a contradicting statement, Trump also attacked former president Barack Obama for “not doing nothing” to prevent Russia’s election interference.
Prior to the meeting, Trump trashed his own country, blaming “the US stupidity and foolishness for the bad US-Russia relations.”
