Report: McCabe Oversaw Investigation Into Jeff Sessions Before Being Fired By The AG
Recently fired deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe had authorized a criminal investigation into Jeff Sessions before the attorney general made the decision to fire him, according to ABC News.
According to the report, McCabe had opened a federal investigation into “whether Sessions lacked candor when testifying before Congress about contacts with Russian operatives.”
Sources that spoke with the news outlet said that Sessions was unaware that McCabe had overseen that investigation, but one of Sessions’ attorneys refused to say if those statements were true or not.
Chuck Cooper, a lawyer for Sessions, said in a statement that the attorney general “is not under investigation for false statements or perjury in his confirmation hearing testimony and related written submissions to Congress.”
