REPORT: Trump And Campaign Team Met With Kremlin-Linked Lawyer Last Year
Just two weeks after Donald Trump won the presidential election, his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. made arrangements to meet up with a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin at Trump Tower, according to The New York Times.
Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who now serves as a senior White House adviser, attended the meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya alongside Trump and Trump Jr.
Representatives for both Kushner and Trump Jr. spoke with The Times and confirmed that the meeting did in-fact take place.
“It was a short introductory meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to stop by. We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow up,” Trump Jr. said in a statement to the Times.
“I was asked to attend the meeting by an acquaintance, but was not told the name of the person I would be meeting with beforehand.”
