Republican Lawmaker Admits Tax Bill Was ‘Mislabeled’ To Avoid Questions On How Trump Will Benefit

The Senate passed the GOP’s tax bill last week. On Tuesday Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) admitted that the bill was “mislabeled” to avoid answering questions about how it will benefit Donald Trump personally.

Sanford told The Washington Post‘s Erica Warner that “fundamentally the bill has been mislabeled.”

“From a truth-in-advertising standpoint it would have been a lot simpler if we just acknowledged reality on this bill,” the South Carolina Republican continued, “which is it’s fundamentally a corporate tax reduction and restructuring bill, period.”

“There’s a degree of political sensitivity given, I think, to the president’s net worth and business involvements and of being labeled as what might be best for him,” he continued.
