Republicans Just Blocked Dems From Interviewing Only Witness At Trump-Putin Meeting: Report

Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a one-on-one secretive meeting prior to their press conference in Helsinki where only one other person was present – a translator.

The press conference held after their meeting caused an uproar when Trump claimed that Russia did not meddle in the 2016 election because Putin told him so, despite U.S. intelligence saying otherwise.

House Democrats tried to get a hold of the translator that was at the one-on-one meeting, to find out what the two world leaders discussed, but Republicans did not allow it.

The motion was made on Thursday by Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell of California who urged the House Intelligence Committee to subpoena the American interpreter that was present at Trump and Putin’s meeting.

But the motion was shut down by Republicans with an 11-6 vote.

Schiff took to Twitter to break the news:

“BREAKING: @RepSwalwell and I just made a motion in House Intel Committee to subpoena the American interpreter during the summit — the only witness to Trump’s meeting with Putin. This is an extraordinary remedy, but Trump’s actions necessitate it. Republicans voted it down.”
