A new report on Friday revealed that Donald Trump wrote Russia President Vladimir Putin a letter in 2013 to personally invite him to the Miss Universe pageant that took place in Moscow.
The Washington Post spoke with multiple sources familiar with the letter who said that the document has been turned over to investigators looking into Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. election.
According to the Post, the letter is a personal invitation for Putin to attend the Pageant that was owned by Trump.
Trump has also tweeted earlier that same month in 2013 that he was hoping to meet Putin.
“Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow — if so, will he become my new best friend?”

The letter, according to the Post, reveals Trump’s personal interest to meet the Russian leader prior to announcing his presidential run.
Trump claimed multiple times before the election that he had never talked nor contacted Putin. Since that moment he has met with the Russian leader several times.
