Within hours of becoming president, Donald Trump’s business entanglements led him to violate the U.S. Constitution. And he has continued doing the same day after day ever since. Now, legal experts are saying enough is enough – it’s time for impeachment.
James Nelson and John Bonifaz, two renown and well-respected legal scholars, just wrote a scathing analysis of Trump’s unconstitutional administration for TIME magazine. In it, the experts argue that Trump has already repeatedly broken the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution.
There’s a clear case for impeachment against the authoritarian ‘so called’ president – so what are we waiting for?
As the clause states: “no person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under [the United States], shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office or Title of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State.”
Time and time again, Trump has taken the ludicrous position that the Emoluments clause can’t be applied to him personally. “I can be President of the United States and run my business 100 percent, sign checks on my business,” Trump’s on the record as saying.
Nelson and Bonifaz aren’t having any of this nonsense. They’re calling for immediate impeachment proceedings against the Orange tyrant.
“To address this unprecedented corruption of the Oval Office and this threat to our Constitution and our democracy, we believe Congress must move forward now with an impeachment investigation of President Trump,” the duo wrote. “More than 575,000 people from across the country have already called for this.”
“The President’s possible conflicts of interest have become increasingly apparent,” they continued. “In the meantime, instead of starting to ‘make America great again,’ the 45th President should read the Constitution and ‘make the President honest again.’”
Nelson and Bonifaz argue that Trump has violated the Constitution mercilessly and must be impeached and impeachment is the only way out of the constitutional mess he has created.
“The American Constitution is a miracle. We have to fight for it before Trump rips it to shreds altogether.”
But legal experts are not the only ones calling Congress to impeach Donald Trump for his crimes. A petition to impeach Trump now has more than 800,000 signatures.
