In an effort to cooperate with the investigation into Russia’s possible collusion in the 2016 presidential election, Facebook has decided to hand over 3,000 Russia-linked ads to Congress, according to The New York Times.
According to The Times, Facebook has previously handed over a small cache of the ads that were helpful for Donald Trump, but now the social media company has agreed to show Congress all of the ads.
This is a big step into the Russia investigation. Democrats have also urged for an intensive effort to investigate election meddling before the 2018 mid-term elections.
Democratic Congressman John Sarbanes said:
“We’re telling the F.E.C., let’s get going on this because the 2018 election is bearing down on us. I think it’s fair to expect the companies to have a higher level of vigilance and catch this stuff on the front end, instead of after the fact.”
