Press Secretary Sean Spicer has been coming up with wild excuses to justify Donald Trump’s actions. But according to a new report from CNN, Trump regrets choosing him as his Press Secretary.
Citing a source familiar with internal communications, CNN reports that the president is disappointed with Spicer’s performance since he took on the position.
According to the CNN report:
“A longtime Republican operative, Spicer is a close ally of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus. According to the source close to the hiring process, Trump is upset with Priebus over the selection of Spicer for arguably the administration’s most visible position, next to the President.”
“Priebus vouched for Spicer and against Trump’s instincts,” a source told CNN.
The president “regrets it every day and blames Priebus,” the source added.
Spicer is currently holding two positions, one as Press Secretary and the other as Communication Director, a spot that was originally supposed to go to former Trump transition spokesman Jason Miller. Miller decided to step down before the inauguration to spend more time with his family.
The source states that Miller’s spot “needs to be filled more than ever.”
