Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey have joined a list of famous celebrities that have pledged to make major donations to the gun control march being organized by the survivors of the horrific Florida school shooting.
Spielberg said in a statement that he and his wife, Kate Capshaw, would join George and Amal Clooney in making a $500,000 donation to the cause.
“The young students in Florida and now across the country are already demonstrating their leadership with a confidence and maturity that belies their ages,” Spielberg said, according to Deadline. “Kate and I applaud their efforts to take a stand for the benefit of this and future generations. They are an inspiration to us all.”
Winfrey also pledged to donate $500,000 to the cause, saying that the march organizers reminded her of the Freedom Riders, the civil rights activists who protested segregation in the 1960s.
George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March For Our Lives.’ These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.
