States Will Sue If Trump Does Away With DACA

It was reported on Sunday night that Donald Trump plans to announce on Tuesday that he will be ending the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. But, at least two states have announced that they will be suing if Trump goes through with the reported plan.

Bob Ferguson (D), Washington’s Attorney General, said on Monday that his state will be suing Trump if he guts the program that protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to this country as kids from being deported.

“If President Trump follows through on his reported decision to cancel DACA after a six-month delay, the Washington Attorney General’s Office will file suit to halt this cruel and illegal policy and defend DACA recipients,” Ferguson said in a statement.

“We have been working closely with legal teams around the country, and we expect to be joined by other states in this action.”

Ferguson’s announcement comes after New York’s governor and attorney general had announced that their state would be suing Trump as well if he followed through with gutting DACA.
