Donald Trump has insisted over and over again that former President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower prior to the 2016 presidential election.
Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to bring up those claims again. He stated:
“The real story turns out to be SURVEILLANCE and LEAKING! Find the leakers.”
Trump spent most of the month of March accusing Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower. These claims were later proven to be untrue by multiple intel sources.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) made an announcement last month that the U.S. intelligence community incidentally collected information on members of Trump’s transition team and then “widely disseminated” the information internally.
“I recently confirmed that on numerous occasions, the intelligence community collected information on U.S. individuals involved in the Trump transition,” Nunes told reporters.
“Details about U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports.”
Nunes reportedly received this information from White House officials and decided to keep the information to himself.
He later faced backlash for bypassing his own committee to brief the president on information related to U.S. surveillance of his transition team.
