Republicans are pushing the idea that the media is happy that we’re in the middle of a pandemic because they can blame Donald Trump for it. That was what Texas Republican Ted Cruz claimed on Monday while appearing on “The Ingraham Angle.”
Cruz told host Laura Ingraham, “You see, much of the mainstream media trying to root for disaster. They are rooting for this pandemic to be worse and worse.”
Cruz not only attacked the media on Ingraham’s show, but also, the Democratic Party — implying that Democrats are enjoying the pandemic because it gives them an excuse to “attack Trump.”
“We should be coming together to root for America, to root for defeating the pandemic, and root for jobs coming back,” Cruz told Ingraham. “And I think too many partisan Democrats want to just use this catastrophe to attack Trump rather than come together and fight for our country.”
Cruz had a similar claim earlier this month when he claimed “too many in the press are giddy with glee” over the pandemic.
The press HATED that, three months ago, we had the lowest African-American & Hispanic unemployment ever recorded. Now that we’re in the midst of a global pandemic—which originated in Wuhan, not the Oval Office—too many in the press are giddy with glee. #RootForAmerica https://t.co/JGb5mgHanT

Cruz got called out on Twitter over his claims. Here are some of the best responses:
Teddie, *two weeks ago* your boy was saying we wouldn’t be touched by the global pandemic. Thanks so much for reminding us that he was 2.5 months late in responding to the global pandemic.

US Intel told trump what was really happening in China but he decided to take Xi’s word for it over them.

Remember when you were running for President and he was accusing your dad of murder one day, and then the next day you were at a phone bank asking people to vote for him?
That was humiliating, right? pic.twitter.com/tz3b8tbfLG

Ted, we were on the exact same unemployment curve as the previous Administration. Y’all juiced the economy with tax cuts, which ballooned the deficit, but GDP was back to 2.0% at the beginning of this year. The economy wasn’t strong enough to normalize rates.

Our colleagues, family members and friends are among those dying, Senator. Nobody is giddy.

The fact that people like Ted Cruz & Marco Rubio cruely claim that anyone is "gleeful" about this, is disgusting!
Disgusting an elected official, Senator would speak this way about any American! That's said, Trump is a bigger monster than they are
They enable him.

Only thing John Boehner ever said that I agreed with: ted cruz is Lucifer in the flesh.

We’re dying and all he can do is further divide us and kiss Trump’s @ss. He needs to get out of politics. He’s good for absolutely nothing.
