A Texas sheriff’s deputy has been arrested on felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl and threatening the victim’s mother into staying quiet about the assaults, authorities said Sunday.
Officer Jose Nunez, a 10-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, was arrested early Sunday morning, the Dallas News reports. The 47-year-old faces a felony charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a news conference.
“The details of the case are quite frankly heartbreaking, disturbing, disgusting and infuriating all at the same time, to be honest with you,” the sheriff said.
Salazar said the girl had been assaulted multiple times over the course of several months.
The girl’s mother is undocumented, Salazar said, and Nunez told her she’d be deported if she told authorities about the assaults, according to the report.
Officials believe there could be more victims, the sheriff said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office at 210-335-6070.
