Texas native country music artist Willie Nelson will be headlining a rally for Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke later this month as the Democrat looks to unseat current Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R).
“If we’re going to win and elect Beto to the Senate, we need Texans to vote for him! And what’s more Texan than Willie Nelson? (Nothing!),” O’Rourke’s campaign wrote on an event page for the rally.
As the midterms get closer O’Rourke is pulling in on Cruz and the polls show the Democrat only one point behind the Republican.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, This will be Nelson’s first public performance on behalf of a political candidate. The event is set to take place in Austin, Texas on September 29.
Nelson has also been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and even criticized Christians for supporting the president after the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy.
