The Congressional Black Caucus Wants Sessions Out, Calls For Him To Resign
The Congressional Black Caucus is now calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign from his post, saying that he lied “under oath on more than one occasion.”
The CBC announced on Monday that the majority of its members already voted in favor of asking Sessions to resign.
“Attorney General Sessions is unfit to serve as the top law enforcement official in the nation and should resign from the position immediately,” the caucus said.
“As the old saying goes, ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.’ Attorney General Sessions is treating Congress and the American people like fools.”
According to the CBC, their decision to ask Sessions to resign came before the Washington Post reported Friday about intercepted communications that suggest Sessions talked about multiple campaign issues with Russia’s former ambassador to the U.S.
Sessions had denied those accusations in the past.
“First, he told the Senate under oath that he did not meet with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election, and then, after reports contradicted that claim, he told the Senate that he did meet with Russian officials, but that he didn’t talk with them about the campaign. On Friday, we learned that the latter claim is likely false.”
