Donald Trump’s remarks, referring to Haiti and some African nations as “shithole countries,” have sparked a wave of bipartisan criticism across Capitol Hill, and the nation as a whole.
Amid intense backlash, the White House Thursday night did not deny the comments, saying only that Trump would continue to “fight” for Americans while other lawmakers fought for “foreign countries.”
“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” White House spokesman Raj Shah said.
Friday morning, however, Trump took to Twitter to deny the comments, accusing Democrats of making them up and touting his relationship with the Haitian people.
“Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said ‘take them out.’ Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians,” Trump tweeted Friday.
Twitter users were not buying it and their responses were brutal.
Here are a few highlights:
Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings – unfortunately, no trust!

You're right about one thing. "No trust." None of us believe nor trust you.

There is not a CEO in this country that could get away with saying these derogatory remarks without getting fired. Why should we allow the president? pic.twitter.com/7tDk761cf8

Trump supporter logic: He denies he did anything wrong, so he didn’t, but even if he did, it couldn’t be wrong because he did it.

@SenatorDurbin is my state's Senator. He has integrity and honor, we're very lucky to have him representing Illinois. So proud he stood up and confirmed it, not that it will matter to Cult 45.
