Joe Arpaio, former Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff, was just found guilty of criminal contempt after he refused to follow a federal judge’s order to stop racial profiling.
The decision was made on Monday by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton. According to The Arizona Republic, Arpaio will be sentence in October for his offense.
Arpaio has been known for racially profiling people and has been called “the most racist Sheriff in America.”
The charge was a result of a 2011 court order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow that forced Apaio to stop racially profiling Hispanics.
Arpaio disobeyed orders, but claimed that his disobedience was unintentional and it was to help his 2012 reelection campaign.
Arpaio lost his bid for reelection in 2016 to Democrat Paul Penzone, bringing his 24-year career to an end. The former Sheriff was known for his hardline stance on illegal immigration.
