The People Have Spoken: Petition To Get Trump To Release Tax Returns Breaks White House Record
Donald Trump has been asked time after time to release his tax returns. He first said he would release them if Obama released his birth certificate back in 2011. Obama released it and yet no signs of his tax returns. Then he said he would release them during his campaign trail, still nothing. Then he said he would release them as soon as they were done being audited by the IRS. We are in his second week of presidency and still no sign of his returns.
People want to see those tax returns even if Republicans like Kellyanne Conway say otherwise: “The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns. We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care. They voted for him.”
What Kellyanne doesn’t seem to understand is that most Americans did not vote for Donald Trump. He actually lost the popular vote by more than three million votes, and it’s a guarantee that all those people would love to see his tax returns.
The numbers don’t lie, a recent petition to get Donald Trump to release his tax returns has reached White House website records. There has been more than 425,628 signatures, which is more than enough to get a response from the White House.
The petition reads: “The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution.”
Who knows if Trump will release his tax returns, and if he doesn’t he will be the first president in over four decades to hide his tax returns from the public.
