Donald Trump decided to accuse former President Obama earlier this month of wiretapping into Trump Tower prior to the 2016 election. Trump’s claims were proven to be false by both FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Mike Rogers during congressional testimony on Monday.
Despite having been proven wrong, Trump still believes that he’s right and is sticking to his allegations. Because of this The Wall Street Journal‘s editorial board argued on Tuesday night that Trump is like a drunk clinging onto a bottle of gin.
The Journal painted a stark image of Trump’s refusal to back down:”Yet the President clings to his assertion like a drunk to an empty gin bottle, rolling out his press spokesman to make more dubious claims.”
Coming from the left or the right, all claims about Obama wiretapping into Trump Tower have been proven false. The fact that Trump still believes it to be true is worrisome. Trump’s headstrong motivations carry potentially devastating consequences.
The editorial board concluded: “If he doesn’t show more respect for the truth, most Americans may conclude he’s a fake president.”
