During an interview on ‘Face The Nation’ Sunday, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) shut down President Donald Trump’s assertion that the Nunes memo “indicates” him by laying out the reasons why the Russia probe would exist even without the Steele dossier because there is plenty of cause for investigation.
Gowdy made it clear that the controversial memo does not vindicate the president in the Russia probe being conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller, as he claimed on a tweet Saturday.
“The memo doesn’t have anything to do with obstruction of justice. So there’s going to be a Russia probe, even without a dossier,” the outgoing chairman of the House Oversight Committee said.
“I’m sure the president is frustrated,” he continued. “But I actually don’t think it [the memo] has any impact on the Russia probe. To me, it doesn’t — and I was pretty integrally involved in the drafting of it [the memo].”
The congressman then proceeded to lay out the reasons why the Russia probe would exist even without the Steele dossier.
