‘There Will Be Answers’: House Dem Just Ruined Trump’s New Year
Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-IL), a member of the House Oversight Committee, appeared on MSNBC on Saturday where she promised Donald Trump that he can expect a wave of subpoenas after her party takes over the chairmanship in a few days.
“Donald Trump is inappropriate on so many levels,” she began. “We will hold him accountable. I sit on Oversight and we have over 51 letters that have been sent to the White House and to different agencies with a deadline of the 11th of January to respond — and one thing that’s so important that everyone needs to know.”
“In these letters, we’re demanding accountability for our government, and these are bipartisan,” she explained. “These are letters that the Republicans have written to the White House. It is about who is getting security clearances, it’s talking about how we’re spending our tax dollars, it’s talking about EPA — the Flint water situation.”
“One of the things that we know is that the White House refuses to respond, even to Republicans’ request, when they were in the majority because there was no accountability,” she charged. “The Republicans just sat there. When they asked for information from the White House, documents and data, and they got zero back — there were no subpoenas issued.”
“We are going to use every ounce of responsibility, authority, that we have because we are here to hold accountability of our government for the people who elect us,” Lawrence continued. “And so there will be consequences, subpoenas, and there will be answers.”
