Two toddlers had to be hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday after one of their daycare playmates shot them accidentally.
According to the police the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, the child was able to get hold of a gun at a private home that functioned as a daycare.
“I’m not going to guess on what occurred in there, but obviously there were weapons in proximity to where kids are, and that’s totally unacceptable to me,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad told reporters.
The toddler was able to fire the gun that struck two other children, putting the three-year-olds in critical condition.
According to Michigan state laws, child care facilities are allowed to have guns but they must be unloaded and stored in a locked location away from the reach of children.
Samantha Eubanks, who ran the daycare, had reportedly told her husband not to bring weapons into their home.
Eubanks sister, Ashley Escobedo, told reporters at the scene that her sister ” would always say don’t you ever bring a gun in this house, it’s not going to happen.”
Police are saying that the daycare is under investigation and that charges are highly likely.
