On Saturday morning, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), who serves in the House Judiciary Committee, appeared on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” with guest host Jonathan Capehart where he had some bad news for “the most impeachable president ever” – Donald Trump.
“Since you’re on the Judiciary Committee, real quickly, last night our colleague Lawrence O’Donnell said that impeachment should be the focus of the Democrats coming in next month,” Capehart noted. “You’re on Judiciary, you’re a member of Congress. From everything that we’ve seen — especially with the filings yesterday — do you think impeachment should be on the table when you become the majority next month?”
Cohen cited H.Res.621, which is an impeachment bill that he introduced more than a year ago.
In the bill, there are five articles of impeachment, including obstruction of justice, foreign and domestic emoluments clauses violations, abuse of power and undermining freedom of the press.
“This is the most impeachable president ever and the facts need to come out to show the American public he has committed impeachable offenses,” he explained.
“I think what he’s done in trying to influence witnesses with his tweets and if he makes pardons that would be considered possibly obstruction of justice and I think there’s no question that [Robert] Mueller has him dead to rights on Russia,” he continued.
“I think there are probably recordings and smoking guns that will come out and then it will be like Watergate,” Cohen predicted.
