Top House Republican Attacks Pelosi Over Impeachment Announcement, Says Majority Of America Don’t Want Trump Gone
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) went after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday after she announced that the House will launch an official impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump.
“Speaker Pelosi happens to be the speaker of this House, but she does not speak for America when it comes to this issue. She cannot decide unilaterally what happens here,” he told reporters.
“The election is over. I realize 2016 did not turn out the way Speaker Pelosi wanted it to happen, but she cannot change the laws of this Congress,” he added. “It’s time to put the public before politics.”
Pelosi’s impeachment announcement came after allegations surfaced of Trump offering military aid to Ukraine in exchange for dirt on presidential candidate Joe Bide.
“Our republic endures because of the wisdom of our constitution enshrined in three coequal branches that act as checks and balances,” Pelosi said on Tuesday. “The president must be held accountable. No one is above the law.”
