A top aide to President Donald Trump has resigned, the White House confirmed Wednesday, following allegations of abuse from his two ex-wives, CNN reports.
White House staff secretary Rob Porter tendered his resignation on Wednesday, a White House official told CNN. Porter denied the allegations in a statement issued in the wake of his resignation.
“These outrageous allegations are simply false,” he said in his statement. “I have been transparent and truthful about these vile claims, but I will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign.”
When John Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as White House chief of staff, Porter’s role expanded. Kelly imposed a strict system of information flow to the President, elevating the importance of Porter’s task in managing the documents, news clippings and briefing books that entered the Oval Office.
The allegations were first reported by the Daily Mail earlier this week.
Jennifer Willoughby, Porter’s second wife of Porter has spoken on the record about her abusive marriage to the man described as one of the most important players in the Oval Office.
she told DailyMail.com that she was ‘walking on eggshells’ during their marriage due to his explosive anger.
“He pulled me, naked and dripping from the shower to yell at me,” she said. He called her a ‘f***ing b***h’ on their honeymoon and she filed a protective order against him, according to the report.
Porter’s first wife Colbie Holderness also told the news outlet that porter was “verbally, emotionally and physically abusive and that is why I left.”
The news outlet also revealed that Porter has been dating White House Director of Communications Hope Hicks.
Porter had been living with a willowy blonde political appointee, sources say before he began dating Hicks. Public records document that the woman was living in his apartment in Arlington, Virginia.
The woman split with Porter around Thanksgiving, a White House source told Daily Mail.
Senator Orrin Hatch, considered the most corrupt Senator in .S. history, defended Porter, saying, “It’s incredibly discouraging to see such a vile attack on such a decent man.”
“I know Rob. I’ve known him for years, both as a close friend and as a personal advisor. The country needs more honest, principled people like Rob Porter, which is why I hope that this cynical campaign to discredit his character ultimately fails,” he added.
