In an effort to intimidate and discredit former FBI Director James Comey, some Donald Trump’s allies have launched a propaganda campaign against the former law enforcer a day before his congressional testimony.
Comey’s scheduled appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday is one of the most anticipated congressional hearings in decades. His testimony will cover his interaction with President Donald Trump during the FBI investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. So it’s not surprising that some Trump’s allies are attacking Comey ahead of the hearing.
The pro-trump group ‘The Great America Alliance’ has produced a hard-hitting television commercial to challenge Comey’s credibility and competence.
In the 30-second TV spot, the group labels Comey a “D.C. insider” and a “showboat”, accuses him of putting “politics over protecting America” and said he was a “consumed with election meddling” in 2016, rather than confronting terrorist threats.
The political group, which does not have to disclose its donors, plans to spend more than $400,000 over the next three days, they said in a statement.
Comey is expected to reveal details of his private conversations with Trump before his abrupt firing and the FBI’s probe into possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian officials during the 2016 elections.
