Trump Blames Mueller And ’17 Angry Dems’ For His Low Approval Rating. Gets Brutal Response

On Saturday, President Trump accused special counsel Robert Mueller and “17 Angry Democrats” of hurting his and Republican candidates’ approval ratings.

In a raging tweet, Trump again characterized the special counsel’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia as a “witch hunt” and claimed that his approval ratings, which have hovered well below 50 percent for weeks in most polls, would be higher if not for Mueller’s probe.

“While my (our) poll numbers are good, with the Economy being the best ever, if it weren’t for the Rigged Russian Witch Hunt, they would be 25 points higher!” Trump said before adding:

“Highly conflicted Bob Mueller & the 17 Angry Democrats are using this Phony issue to hurt us in the Midterms. No Collusion!”

Trump’s tweet complaining about poll numbers followed a series of endorsements for Republican candidates across the country. Republicans hope to stave off a “blue wave” in November’s midterm elections, in which Democrats hope to regain control of the House.

Trump’s approval rating sits at 41 percent in a RealClearPolitics average of polls, while Republicans have lagged behind Democrats on generic ballot polls for control of the House from single- to double-digits since the beginning of the year.

Mueller’s investigation entered a new phase this week after a plea deal between prosecutors and Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman. Manafort pleaded guilty on Friday to federal charges.

Manafort was found guilty last month of tax and bank fraud charges and faced another trial in Washington, D.C. this month.

What Manafort’s plea agreement means for the investigation is yet unknown, but more charges for him or other Trump associates could be down the road.

Trump’s tweet was met with a fierce response from Twiter users, and mockery inevitably ensued:
