Trump Buried In Scorn Over Incredibly Sarcastic Tweet About Mitt Romney’s Negative COVID-19 Test

President Donald Trump on Wednesday responded to the news that Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) has tested negative for coronavirus, sarcastically tweeting that he was “so happy I can barely speak!”

“This is really great news! I am so happy I can barely speak,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “He may have been a terrible presidential candidate and an even worse U.S. Senator, but he is a RINO [Republican In Name Only], and I like him a lot!”

Romney was the only Republican senator to vote to convict Trump during his impeachment trial earlier this year and the Utah senator has often been the target of the president’s ire.

At a briefing Sunday, Trump responded to the news of Romney’s isolation awaiting test results with, “Gee, that’s too bad,” denying he was being sarcastic when pressed.

Romney and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) both announced they would self-quarantine Sunday after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced he had tested positive for the virus, with both citing recent contacts with the Kentucky senator.

On Tuesday Romney confirmed he had tested negative but said he would remember in isolation for the remainder of the two-week period.
